Realism vs. Surrealism
Realism
Focuses on the ordinary and common aspects of life, portraying reality as it is. Themes are non-exotic and grounded in everyday life. There’s no need for imaginative or extraordinary concepts, as the goal is to reflect what is real.
Surrealism
A creative twist on Realism, exploring the subconscious mind and dream like imagery. Often distorts ordinary reality to present unexpected and illogical scenes. Influenced by Freudian psychology and the rebellious Dada art movement. Artists like Salvador Dalí used free association and dream imagery to express deeper ideas.
Dadaism
An anti-war art movement characterized by satire and nonsensical themes. Served as a precursor to Surrealism, challenging traditional art conventions.
What is Digital Surrealism?
Surrealism in the digital era uses technology to express artistic ideas. It is one of the most popular digital art styles, combining dreamlike elements with modern tools.
How to Create Surrealist Artworks Key Elements
• Dream-like scenes and symbolic imagery
• Surprising and illogical justxapositions
Tools for Digital Surrealism
Software like Photoshop simplifies the creation of surrealist images. Basic photomontage skills can help you achieve impressive results.
2. Project 2B - Illustrated Typography Poster
Research
I started by searching for examples of the given words using Pinterest, Google, and some websites to help me get a better idea.
Sketches
For the Illustrated Typography Poster, I want to create a design using a clipping mask. My rough sketches are quite messy, so I can't explain much through them. Once I digitize the sketches, I'll be able to explain better and provide images to illustrate what I mean.
Digitilization of Sketches
#1 For the first one, I created an outline text effect on the words "Live Each Day With." So I can move the text, and it appears as a stroke when placed over a subject.
#2 For the second one, I created the word "Purpose" using a clipping mask.
#3 & #4 For the third and final one, I added decorations such as wallpaper, shapes, and lines while creating a key for the word "Purpose" to make the meaning clearer.
