Lecture (Week 3) : Introduction to Photoshop

1. Lasso Tool
The Lasso Tool lets users draw around and select specific parts of an image. This tool works like drawing with a pencil or cutting out parts of a photo.

The Lasso Tool has three types:
• Lasso
• Polygonal Lasso
• Magnetic Lasso

The Lasso Tool works best with a graphic tablet. A graphic tablet makes drawing and selecting easier than using a mouse or trackpad.

2. Pen Tool
The Pen Tool creates paths in an image. Here's how it works:
• The Pen Tool makes paths by adding points.
• Clicking adds points to the image.
• Dragging while clicking shapes the path between points.
• Fewer points make smoother paths.
• More points allow for more detailed shapes.

Tips for using the Pen Tool:
• Start with few points for simple shapes.
• Add more points only when needed for complex shapes.
• Practice makes perfect - using the Pen Tool takes time to master.

3. Layering
Layers in Photoshop:
• Are like separate image sheets stacked together
• Can be changed without affecting other layers
• Combine to create one final image

Advantages of using Layers:
• Save files with all layers included
• Allow for non-destructive editing
• Keep the original image safe
• Store extra information or images separately

Using Layers:
• Open the Layers panel
• Create a new layer for each element
• Work on each layer independently
• Arrange layers to create the final image
• Adjust layer opacity or blending modes as needed

Tips:
• Name layers for easy organization
• Group related layers together
• Use adjustment layers for edits

Lasso Tool vs Pen Tool

Lasso Tool:
• Made for selecting parts of an image
• Allows freehand selection
• Easier to use for quick, rough selections
• Less precise than the Pen Tool

Pen Tool:
• Creates precise shapes and paths
• Uses anchor points for accuracy
• Can make very detailed selections
• Not originally designed as a selection tool
• More versatile but harder to master

Key differences:
• Precision: Pen Tool is more precise
• Ease of use: Lasso Tool is easier for beginners
• Versatility: Pen Tool can do more than just select
• Learning curve: Pen Tool takes more time to learn

When to use:
• Lasso Tool: For quick, simple selections
• Pen Tool: For precise, complex selections or creating paths

2. Practical : Compositing Digital Collage
For practice, week 3 is about compositing digital college. So I need to create 3 different composition digital collages from the images that were given before with A4 canvas size.

3. Reflection
Making a digital college design is easier than physical college because you can change, remove, or undo elements as needed. Also, the flexibility to rearrange and adjust the elements until you achieve the desired result. It's like the opposite thing than the previous practical.
